I qualified as an art teacher, and for much of my career taught art to young adults who for various reasons found  main stream education inappropriate.During this time I studied and gained an Hons.B.A. Fine Art degree at Sunderland University.

Since retiring I have spent a lot of time walking, looking, photographing and recording the Northumbrian landscape. My paintings aim to express my emotional and physical understanding of this inspiring  place. They are not of a moment in time, like that of a photograph, but my assimilated  understanding of colour, composition, form, texture and light . By layering and eroding, a process like that of nature, I aim at creating a timeless encompassing image.
