I completed my Fine Art degree at Sunderland in 1977 and had a short dalliance as a professional mural painter 1989 – 1992 (you may have seen some of my work in Eldon Gardens). After I left art college I worked in the charity sector designing, delivering and managing projects to support vulnerable young people and adults, ending my working life in 2020 as the North East Regional Coordinator for a national anti-bullying charity.
I tend to focus more on drawing than painting. I enjoy the physical side of drawing - holding a pen, pastel, pencil - then making that first mark, feeling the resistance as the point the pen or pencil comes into contact with the paper.
I create a varied range of both abstract and representational works.
I like the idea that I sometimes don't know where that first mark will take me - even with a portrait.
