I Have been a regular at recreational art classes since 1963, and first exhibited at the Southend on Sea Open Competition in the late 60’s. Career changes brought me to the NE in 1985, and I took early retirement from what is now BAE Systems in 1994. Following a short rest I took up a place on the Arts and Design course at the University of Sunderland, and graduated in sculpture and drawing in 2000. I have been a member of NEAC, off and on, since 2003. Having started drawing in pencil, and painting in poster colour, I briefly flirted with oils and settled on pastels. The degree course altered my perception after heavy criticism of my oil painting skills, and I enjoyed the physicality of working in 3D, while continuing my life drawing interests. I have now decided that acrylics are my medium of choice. I currently work on 40cm x 50cm hardboard panels, prepared with a white ground to preserve the brilliance of the colour.
