As a child I used to make
watercolour sketches from my Grandma's window and I have sketched
intermittently with pencil and pastels ever since. I only started painting
again when I retired 8 years ago and attended Linda Kent's abstract painting
course. Consequently, elements of drawing often creep into my paintings. I am
attracted by strong contrasts, of colour and light, but also in subject matter
- the contrast between natural and man-made elements of the landscape. I particularly admire the landscape work
of David Bomberg, John Piper and Joan Eardley, and of current artists, David
Tress.
